More Usefull Terrain

So, I had about 1/2 an hour to kill so me and my boy whipped up some better terrain:

Useless Terrain

Did a couple test pieces of terrain for my urban table I'm planning.  In my mind they're a bit of fail as they have no purpose, but they only took about 15 minutes of work time to complete.

New Previews: Morvahna the Dawnshadow and Vyros, Incissar of the Dawnguard

Privateer let the horses out on the release previews today! We have Vyros, Incissar of the Dawnguard and Morvahna the Dawnshadow on their cavalry mounts. Morvahna was a bit of a surprise to be Light Cavalry, but I think that fits her playstyle well and the look and feel of the Circle Orboros army. Also, she looks regal on that skirovik mountain goat. I can't wait to paint her and her regular version at the same time.

Space Wolves

Painted up some Space Wolves for Adepticon; I'm going to be in 2 of the smaller events, Combat Patrol and the Sin of Alacrity.  Here are the first of my Grey Hunters squads.

Saturday, December 1, 2012

Painted General Ossrum

Continuing the Mercenary warcasters, here's General Ossrum. He's a great model, full of character, and rather easy to paint. I'm happy how he came out because I was worried that the scheme I wanted for my Rhulic forces wouldn't look good and this one does. Very happy with that.

New Preview: Afflictor

Legion of Everblight is getting an interesting new warbeast, the Afflictor. Somehow it spawns Incubi when it hits a target which can have some great uses in game. Getting more Incubi for free is always a plus. I really want to see the rules of it.

New Preview: Rask!

Well, the first Minion warlock has his model released. Rask is a badass from his NQ stats. I'm very excited to see what he has to offer and how he changes the metagame around the Gatormen with Gargantuans.

Painted Fiona the Black

Continuing my Mercenary painting campaign, I've completed Fiona the Black. I was shocked by how easy she was to paint as her photo on Privateer Press scared the hell out of me, painting-wise. Turns out that she's a very easy model to paint. I even spent the time to make sure all the purple was white-lined because it looked like ass without it. Here she is in all her Thamarite splendor!

Painted Captain Bartolo Montador

Continuing on the painted warcasters, here's Captain Bartolo Montador. I've had him half finished for a long time now. Cleaned up the paint (cause it was bad) and finished him up in time to run the Galleon. :)

Painted Magnus Models

I'm working through warcasters/warlocks now on my goal to get them all painted. This puts me at 40 models with these two done. I did them both at the same time because I really liked the paint scheme and thought it would make it easier to have them both in front of me at once. I was right on this because it took only 4 hours to paint both of them. I'm very happy about that.

Painted Asphyxious the Hellbringer and Vociferon

I've had great success with Asphyxious the Hellbringer in my games. I'm 7-1 so far with him. He's so survivable and I really look forward to trying out different playstyles with him. By far my favorite new warcaster in a long time.

New Preview: Galleon!

I've been waiting to see what this model looked like since the concept art in Colossals and the 3D images we've seen of it. I'm happy to say that I'm really impressed by the model and will likely own one, if not two!
Pirates ho!

Finished Woldwatcher and WIP Druids of Orboros

I finished my second Woldwatcher after getting the Woldwrath done. Going from the Woldwrath to the Woldwatcher was crazy...I finished all the colors up in less than 2 hours and I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Finished Woldwrath

I finally got motivated to finish the Woldwrath. It feels really, really good to have him done. Now I just have to pick the next couple of models to paint...

He's painted in the same style as all of my Wolds, light stone with green runes and orange/red leaves. I'm very happy to have him done and I think he looks great. Baldur and Cassius are going to enjoy their new toy!

Woldwrath WIP 2

Continuing with my Woldwrath from before, I'm much further along then before. I've finished all the green in the groves across the entire model. I've also got the layer of wood down to get a drybrush and it'll be finished. I really just have to finish the ropes, that last drybrush, and clean up all the little mistakes I've made along the way. I'm pretty happy with him currently.

Leviathans

Leviathans is a pretty cool boardgame, if you ever get a chance to demo it you should. Dave and I recently had a go at Scenario #1. English vs. French.

GW Feva'

Been banging out a bunch of GW stuff lately, mostly inspired by my aquisition of Space Hulk (original 1989 version Baby!). I figured, what the hey, might as well give 40K one more shot.

Object Source Lighting

Hugo somehow managed to do a bang up job with object source lighting: check it out.

Current WIPs: Woldwrath, Woldwatcher, Gallows Groves

So I haven't done any painting at all since a few days before Gencon. I felt burnt out and a bit of a slacker. I finally shook that off today. Today I spent 7 hours painting the initial base coats of stone for the Woldwrath (that I picked up at Gencon), my second Woldwatcher, and 2 of my Gallows Groves. Next up on the list is getting the drybrush on, then either painting the wood or going nuts on the green inlay for all of the runes. Either way, it'll be a lot of work and a lot of fun!

The Deathwing

I've been busy lately working on these guys: The Deathwing!

Assembled Some Models

It has been awhile since I've really done anything productive with the hobby. I haven't really painted all that much. I think Lord Arcanist Ossyan was the last model I've painted and I need to repaint him. However, I did get a few models assembled for my Theme Force thread on the Privateer Press forums (located at http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?113622-Theme-Force-Insanity). I'm happy to have 81 Theme Forces at 50 points, but it does take awhile to take photos of them all! :)

New Previews (Well, An Old One Too!)

I've been quite the slacker since Gencon. I worked a ton at the event and really haven't felt like doing much since. I'm glad to be blogging again though.

Here are the two previews that have come from Privateer Press lately, the Pyre Troll resculpt and Stormguard resculpts, both in plastic!

The Fleet Assembles!

I got tired of spanking people with the Americans (FSA really IS overpowered), so I decided to switch to the Empire of the Blazing Sun. Ichiban! TORA TORA TORA!!!

GenCon Exclusives: Druid Gone Wilder and Bombardier Bombshell

Privateer Press is selling two models at GenCon based on their partnership with the RAM brewery, the Bombardier Bombshell from last year and the Druid Gone Wilder from this year. I'm very excited to see the two models in person as well as buying them!

I'm very happy with the price points. $19.99 for the Bombardier and $13.99 for the Druid is pretty sweet. I'm going to use the Bombardier as the unit leader and the Druid as my Druid Wilder. :) Very sweet!

Making Tables

Here is a quick tutorial on how I made my 4th (I believe) table.  Still lots of room for improvement, but hopefully this will inspire everybody to stop playing on bare plywood.

Gargantuan Preview - Woldwrath

One of the more anticipated Gargantauns, the Woldwrath has been previewed. I'm very excited to use this model with the Celestial Fulcrum and all the constructs. I really like the look of it and all of the stone and stick models. Cannot wait!

This model has a ton of details and will be as difficult, if not more, to paint those runes like the Fulcrum. I expect another 20-40 hour model here. I'm a little insane that I want to paint 2 and another Fulcrum!

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Painted Stormwall

For a league running at my LGS, I've been playing Cygnar. The main reason for this was the Stormwall. I was very excited to see this model come out and really wanted to play it. I've played 6 gaems with it so far at small points value. It hasn't been game breaking yet but I know a few of my opponents have complained because they took lists that couldn't fight it. That happens, but so far the Stormwall hasn't absolutely destroyed my opponents yet. :) That'll change now that it is painted.

New Previews: Hyperion, Assault Kommandos, General Ossrum

Holy cow, Privateer has laid out a feast for us! I'm just amazed by a lot of these models!

General Ossrum looks awesome! Very characterful and detailed! Rhul wins with that model.
Hyperion is amazing looking, the best Colossal so far. He'll be tough to beat! I can't wait for October!
The Assault Kommando repack is neat to see, figured they'd continue.

Khadoran Decimator/Demolisher/Spriggan

Late Thursday update, but we get one! The Khadoran players will be happy they finally get their second heavy warjack plastic kit!

New Previews Naga Nightlurker and Asphyxious the Hellbringer

Privateer Press gave us two (total three) models I can't wait for! Ashpyxious and the Naga Nightlurker. I really like the aesthetics of both models and can't wait to own them. Very, very excited.

Teaching the Children Well

I've been busy with the kids, hopefully imparting on them a little knowledge on the construction and painting of toy soldiers.

Converted Phoenix - WIP

Take this as a grain of salt: I'm not a converter. That's what drove me to Warmachine and Hordes first over anything Games Workshop. I hate not having options for each model build and I hate having the scratch sculpt something to work well.

However, Nathan (PG_Rydiafan) convinced me that my second Phoenix had to have a two-handed grip on her sword. I was a bit nervous because the model was plastic and I really didn't have the bits to fix any mixup. The glue and bond time on the plastics from Privateer Press are super short, so if you screw up, it is really hard to change. I'm glad I got it mostly right on the first try.

New Previews Storm Troll, Tiberion Sons of Bragg

Privateer Press gave us a trifecta of previews today. I'm really not looking forward to one of them being released (Tiberion). That model can stay in Privateer's Vault for years. ;)

Painted Wrong Eye and Snapjaw

I've turned into an insomniac. Instead of sleeping, I decided to get these two models finished. They are going to be used in an event in a week, so I figured I should get them done with plenty of time to spare. They've worked well for me in past games for me (including locking down Molik Karn in an Unbound game) so I'm excited to see how they'll do painted.

They still need a dip like all of my Minions, but that'll be tomorrow with Rorsh and Brine.

June is definitely making up for the lack of painted models in the last two months...

Saturday, June 9, 2012

Painted Necrotechs

I managed to crank out my last Necrotech model. It looked so much better than my old Necrotechs that I knew I'd have to repaint them. Instead of waiting forever to do it and feel guilty every time I needed to field 2 or more, I just went ahead and did it. I like these much more.

Friday, June 8, 2012

Painted Soulhunters

The Soulhunters of Cryx have been on my radar for a long time to paint. After painting Darragh Wrathe though, I felt that I couldn't do them justice. The thrall flesh I use just looked really bland on Darragh. I felt that the Soulhunters would look awful. So I didn't paint them.

Until I needed them for an event. Then I went into rush model to get them painted. I managed to only finished 1 for the event, but had a lot of base colors on the other 4. Then I was told to use Devlan Mud. Holy hell has that stuff changed my painting. I use it on almost everything now. I'm very happy with it on the Soulhunters!

Mountain King Preview and Holy Zealots

We got a preview of this model from Lock and Load last weekend and Adepticon before it. I'm glad to see it is only $124.99 rather than $134.99 (I really expected the $135 over the $125).

I think this model needs some play time before a final decision is made to its effectiveness. Sure it is expensive, but it has some decent abilities. When I get to Trollbloods, I'm looking forward to running one!

Two Player Starter For Hordes

Privateer didn't say for sure that they'd come out with a Hordes version of the Two Player Starter when the Warmachine one came out, but almost everyone could have guessed it! Today they released what the models for it will be.

Monday, June 4, 2012

Painted Storm Strider

I've painted this model for a friend. He has some issues getting the model and I felt I've owed him for a lot of what he's done for the last few years. I've painted it up for his scheme and now it is ready to be given to him.

I've left the base alone as he'll be buying a DragonForge base for it. The blue wasn't highlighted as I don't really know what color to highlight it and I want to give him the option to make it match his army more.

Unbound Game 3

Sorry for the delay in postings, life has definitely been hectic!

I managed to get another Unbound game in on a day I had completely off. I got to play Danny and Brian in a 200 point per side game. Originally it was supposed to be two teams of two but one of the players (my teammate) had to drop so I just played both armies. Danny played Circle and Brian played Skorne. We set up around noon and finished the game (calling it during Round 3, I'll explain later) around 8 PM. Unbound takes quite awhile!

Stormwall Stats

Jason Martin's insider on Privateer Press' website spoiled the beans for the Cygnar Colossal, the Stormwall. NQ42 has all the rules for the Colossal in it, so pick it up if you want to see all the juicy goodness.

Kraken Preview

As Cryx is my main faction, seeing the model for the Kraken at Adepticon was a pleasure! I really liked the way it looked in person and I just can't wait to see how it will perform on the table. I really want to play one with Skarre2 and the Witch Coven.

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Centurion, Avenger, and Hammersmith Previews

Privateer Press put a bunch of goodies out at once! Next they gave us the Centurion chassis in plastic. I was really blown away by the quality and design of these models when I saw them at Adepticon 2012. They looked imposing and awe-inspiring!

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Scarsfell Griffon and Gatorman Witch Doctor Preview

So it has been awhile since my last post. My apologies for that. Life has been busy since Adepticon and it won't slow down until June! Just crazy busy with weddings, baptisms, and work. I'll keep up with the new previews, however!

Painted Soulhunter, the Test Model

I'm currently working on a group of Soulhunters for a tournament in 2 weeks. I'm still trying to be fully painted at all events I go to (that are reasonable, expecting 5 lists is not reasonable). I think the model is 90% done. All the base colors are on, but it is missing something. Devlan Mud has been suggested, but I'm not sure if it goes on the entire model or just the flesh, bone, and muscles. I've also been suggested to use a brown/blue wash on the muscles (red) to make them look bruised. Any other suggestions?

Boom! Goes the Dynamite!

Boom! Rorsh has entered the scene! Carrying his gun and his dynamite, he is a force to be reckoned with on the table. I'm very excited to have the pair painted and ready to go for the next event! This Tuesday will be great to get them played!

Bacon Incoming! Painted Brine

Trying to finish my Terminus list up for May, I needed to get Rorsh and Brine painted. I've rarely played them, but they hit pretty hard and provide a double handed throw in a list that wants to camp focus. The lesser warlocks all do great in Warmachine armies because their fury mechanic allows a lot of brute force in a list that may not have it with the focus mechanic. I'll have some battle reports next week with these guys!

He still needs a dip, but that will occur when Rorsh is done too.

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Painted Extreme Feral Warpwolf

My friend Scott painted this Extreme Feral Warpwolf in payment for my Extreme Titan Gladiator I gave to him a few years ago. I'm very happy with the paint job and look forward to trying to emulate it on all of my Warpwolves.

Terrain for Adepticon, Part 3

Here's some pictures of the buildings and fountain, after some progression. Some of the buildings still need a bit of work, but they are all really close to finished.

Madison 6 Pack Event 3 - Rounds 2 and 3

Continuing my battle reports from Round 1, I got to play against Zack and his Trollbloods next for Game 2.

Reckoner Chassis and Winter Argus Preview

Privateer Press must be insane to give us this many previews in a row! It is madness!

Succubus Preview

Among all the Khador previews yesterday, Privateer gave us something Legion has been waiting for since Domination came out, the Succubus.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Vladimir the Great Prince Preview

Privateer Press has been very gracious to the Khadoran folks today! Vlad3 is previewed!

Conquest Preview

Privateer Press has been giving us a lot of Colossals recently with the Kraken yesterday and now Conquest today. Here's the model.

Madison 6 Pack Event 3 - Round 1

On Saturday, April 7th, the PGs from Madison, WI ran the 3rd of 6 linked tournaments. This tournament was a Highlander 35 point event at Misty Mountain. If you aren't aware, the basic Highlander rules are this: you can have 1 unit (with attachments), 1 solo, and as many warjacks/warbeasts as you can fit in your list, with the caveat that you cannot duplicate warjacks or warbeasts. This leads to some very interesting list builds and some warcasters/warlocks you wouldn't normally see in a Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw event. The scenario all day was Close Quarters.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Painted Satyxis Raider Captain

This Saturday is a Highlander event in Madison. I needed to finish a Satyxis Raider Captain to finish a couple lists so I can play fully painted at events still. She got done tonight for that reason. She's also going to be my Paint the Target model for Lost Hemisphere (more information at http://losthemisphere.com/blog/?p=20189). I'm glad she's done early as I need more time for Adepticon.

Monday, April 2, 2012

Terrain for Adepticon, Part 2

I've been slowly working on my terrain for Adepticon. I only have 17 days left, so I really need to get moving. Here's the last progress I made. I finished the buildings core structure. We've begun painting but I forgot to take pictures, like usual. I should have more photos and an update late Tuesday night.

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Painted Icarus

Since G Konkel joined, I've wanted to really get painting my Covenant of Antartica fleet. I finally got the opportunity and cranked out my first Icarus model. I really like the rules of this model as it is a powerhouse on the table and groups of 3 of them kill things dead. You can't really ask for something better than a shielded gunship that's pretty cheap on the table!

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Painted Necrosurgeon and Stitch Thralls

One my painting journey to Adepticon (only 23 days left, holy crap it is coming up fast!) I've finished my second Necrosurgeon and Stitch Thralls unit for Cryx. They form a pivotal position in the reuse, recycle, reanimate chain for Cryx and I'm glad to have them painted to make more Mechanithralls.

Monday, March 26, 2012

New Asphyxious the Hellbringer Artwork

We knew Lich Lord Asphyxious was changing to another version in Colossals. I had guessed that Daemortus would change into something else, but I didn't think it would be a sword! His shoulderpads also really changed shape and he looks much bigger than his previous incarnations (he might be Scaverous' size now).

I'm really excited to see more from him because Asphyxious was the reason I began playing Warmachine. He's the reason I continue to play. I can't wait for this model.

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Painted Machine Wraiths

I've recently finished both of the remaining Machine Wraiths for my Cryx army. For 1 point each, they make great scenario models to screw with my opponents! They were much faster to paint than I expected and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

My Machine Wraiths are now green, purple, and grey to tell them apart on the table. The purple is probably my favorite due to how well the purple looks on the model.

Animantarax Preview

Privateer Press has given us the final battle engine from Domination, the Skorne Animantarax. This thing fills the base. It is really wide and looks to be pretty tall. They did a really decent job on the armor of the monster. The details on the model are really neat but I don't think it looks all that agile of a monster to swing that tail around fast.

I just wish the rules were a little better for it so that it didn't feel so unfocused.

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Painted Corruptor

Iron Lich Asphyxious' Theme Force is so far the only reason I've had to field one of these. I'm normally not a ranged player (and if I do play ranged, it is with a Leviathan or a different faction!) so this helljack is just foreign to me. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to use its gun. I've only got 2 or 3 games with it so I've still got a long way to go with it.

I think it has really only shot two or three times total. It'll need to fire more than that in a game to really become useful...

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Painted Malice

I've finished the last character warjack for Cryx last night. He was pretty fun to paint and has a lot of character in that face.

I normally use him in my Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast lists because he can boost after the dice rolls to get better harpoon shots. I can't wait to field a fully painted Skarre list (only one model to go, a Satyxis Raider Captain).

Monday, March 12, 2012

Painted and Dipped Exchange Model

As I alluded to yesterday, I dipped the exchange model so that it wouldn't be so flat. I'm very happy to be done with the model and I think it looks really good. What do you think?

Sunday, March 11, 2012

Paint Exchange Model

I finally got painting again and I decided to work on the model I need to finish for a painting exchange. I managed to finish all of the base colors in one fell swoop, allowing me to dip the model. I'm very pleased with how the dip changes the colors I used, as I felt the model was pretty flat without it. I'm excited to hand this model off.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Stormwall Preview

And the first Colossal from Privateer Press is the Stormwall! I'm really excited to see what these things can do. From the preview photos before, I've really liked this warjack. Getting 4 models is really neat too!

Nemo's been innovating, making a warjack run on both voltaic energy and steam power. :) He's a mad genius, after all!

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Artificer General Nemo and Storm Chaser Adept Finch

So, Privateer Press has given us our first look at the new epic Warcasters from Colossals, Nemo and Finch. We've seen the concept artwork (which was awesome!) and now we get to see the models.

First off, these models are amazing. Nemo has received one of the coolest epic models, now he's got an awesome second epic model and assistant. His resculpt was fantastic. This model falls in line with how cool Nemo really is. I'm very happy to have been designing an army around running Nemo. If (and when) I play Cygnar, it'll be some form of Nemo.

Secondly, he's the brilliant mind behind the new Colossal. That's freaking awesome. That's the project Darius and Nemo were working on in the storyline. He's leading the industry of Immoren's most technologically advanced country and rocking the house with it!

Captain Farilor & Standard Bearer Preview

Privateer has released a photo of Captain Farilor & Standard Bearer. I'm really excited to play with this UA as it adds a lot of flexibility to the Legionnaire unit. The models seem nicely modeled as well, with Farilor screaming/standing in defiance and the Standard Bearer looking neat with its pretty standard. They need to come out soon.

$23 is a little shocking to me, but it isn't really out of line. I'd have to look at other UAs that are Character models to compare the prices too.

Steamroller 2012 50 Point Reinforcements Event

I ran a 50 Point SR2012 event with the artifice that Reinforcements happen ever game, no matter the scenario at Gametown in New Berlin, WI this last weekend. I wanted to see how reinforcements affected the games as well as terrain setup and this gave me a very decent amount of data to compare. I had 12 players show up, with a majority coming in from out of town. I think everyone had fun, I know I had fun hanging out  with everyone that I hadn't seen in awhile.

I learned with reinforcements from a terrain setup that:
1. Buildings should not be 20"-23" up on the right side of the table. It blocks reinforcements hard.
2. Putting a forest in the same spot will make people sad too.
3. Placing a wall somewhere over there can be beneficial.
4. I can't place terrain in a way to prevent the other player from attacking the reinforcements.

These things make it actually quite difficult to place terrain without causing an imbalance. I need to avoid #1, but creating an imbalance on the table is something I desire now when making tables. In SR2012, you have a choice now of going first or picking sides. I feel that having symmetrical sides unfairly punishes the choice of the second player so now I'm giving an incentive to choose a side. I just need to be careful not to go to far where everyone chooses to go second to pick the side. I'm going to be tracking this now to make sure it isn't abused (when I can).

Placings for the top 3 of my event where:
1st - Carnage4u - Skorne
2nd - Rydiafan - Mercenaries
3rd - MidwestJedi - Skorne

We had the following faction breakdown:
Skorne - 3
Khador - 2
Legion - 1
Cryx - 1
Circle - 1
Mercenaries - 1
Minions - 1
Cygnar - 1
Retribution - 1

Here's some pictures of the event.

Minion Road Hog Preview

The Road Hog, the highly awaited warbeast for Farrow. With its spray and speed buff, this thing can hurt a lot of troops.

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

Hypnos Preview

Hypnos was put up today on Privateer's website. I'm interested in seeing the parts as I haven't really gotten used to the Vyre myrmidons yet so I can't really tell what's different besides head, hands, and backplate.

Terrain for Adepticon

I'm in the middle of making some terrain for an Unbound board for Adepticon. Here's some progress pictures. I need to make 6 more buildings, 3 more for the town square and 3 for other places on the table. Each building is currently pinned and made out of 3/16" foamcore. Each building is approximately 4"x6".

New Terrain for Longest Night

Spud of Lost Hemisphere fandom made these really awesome paper templates for the Longest Night tents. They can be found at http://losthemisphere.com/blog/?p=16953. I have a local Longest Night event coming up this weekend, so I decided to build one.

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Painted Saxon Orrik

And now the man that will give Pathfinder to whatever warrior model needs it most, Saxon Orrik. He has a special place in my heart because I can't make an Iron Lich Asphyxious list without including Saxon Orrik. Now that he's painted (he still needs a dip), he'll be able to be played competitively this year. Very awesome! The model is really easy to paint too, with generous detail everywhere.

Friday, February 17, 2012

Painted Madelyn Corbeau

In my ongoing quest to play fully painted, I needed to get Madelyn Corbeau done for my Lich Lord Terminus list and my Iron Lich Asphyxious list. She didn't take very long to paint. This model is really detailed and looks great.

I'm excited to get more games in with her. She's pretty vital in any melee list providing an extra 3" movement out of activation if the enemy is close enough. That's a pretty good threat range increase that I need to practice and use more.

Painted Lich Lord Venethrax and Cryxian Collective

Hello again,

I just finished working on Lich Lord Venethrax instead of working on models I need for my next tournament. ;) However, finishing Venethrax did accomplish another part of a goal for the year along with Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast. I now have 2 more warcaster/warlocks to finish before the year is out. I'm sure I'll paint more than that, but 5 it is. Kaya the Wildbourne and Magnus the Traitor are the last ones that need to be painted.

By completing Venethrax, I've finished every Cryxian warcaster currently released. It feels pretty good to have all of a single faction's warcasters/warlocks done. I'm also currently 35 of 118 of completed warcasters/warlocks. I look forward to getting more done.

Painted Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast

Here's my Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast. Such a fantastic model and rules. She's fast becoming one of my favorite warcasters to play. She's such an amazing model, I can't say enough about it! I'm really proud of this model. Her face came out perfect and the rest of the model just followed suit.

Painted Satyxis Raiders with Sea Witch

After getting these 11 ladies painted for Adepticon 2010, I haven't worked on them. I need them for a few tournaments coming up soon, so I've now finished them. These also finished one of my goals for the year which was complete a unit that I had half finished. They also put me above 15% fully painted which feels awesome!

Painted Orin Midwinter

I'm beginning to try out new lists than what I'm used to. To start with this, I've been adding Mercenaries that I normally don't use back into rotation. I started and finished Orin Midwinter for this reason. He's a great looking model and I had a blast painting him. I hope he does much better on the table now that he's done!

New Preview Ghetorix

Here's the new character Tharn Warpwolf, Ghetorix! He looks amazing! I'm really exciting to give him and his boy Kromac a run once he comes out!

He's $16.99 USD, which I think is a little more expensive than a lot of the other kits out there. It looks like the head, both arms, and weapon makes the kit more expensive. Here's hoping he doesn't take long to assemble.

New Previews for the Desecrator and plastic Warpacks

Privateer Press has given us a lot of new goodies. Plastic warpacks (which a lot of people probably saw coming) as well as the new chassis for Cryx. Here's the photo goodness...

Battle Report: Circle Orboros vs. Cryx

I got to play another game with Baldur the Stonesoul against PG_MrRuffles (Brian). He's been playing Cryx for the last while now and he was gracious enough to give me a game at 50 points. I got to break out Baldur2's Theme Force at the level I've been wanting.

Black Dragon Iron Fang Pikemen Preview

Privateer Press opened the online store for the upgrade kit for the Black Dragon Iron Fang Pikemen UA. This is really cool that Privateer has given us a second use for the same unit with different abilities. I think players will really like the versatility of it. One big issue for players will be tournament readiness of the models. I know personally that I'll be stopping anyone from playing the Black Dragon Pikemen at an event I run unless the entire unit that's being fielded has the correct shields, as per the SR2012 conversion rules.

Battle Report: Circle Orboros vs. Cryx

I played Tony finally at my LGS on Tuesday. I came prepared to play 50 points of Baldur the Stonesoul's Theme Force. Tony only really has enough for 35 points and I'm more than willing to pair down my list to make it work. I'm very happy with my 50 point list so I thought it'd be difficult to slim the list down. It turned out not to be the case. I ended up dropping the Woldwarden, Shifting Stones, and Lord of the Feast from my 50 point list to make it 35 points.

Minuteman Preview

Privateer has given us the Minuteman model on their website. I think the model looks awesome and is pretty much spot on from what I expected. I really don't want to face many of these guys in the game though because they pack such an awesome punch and are highly maneuverable. I hope some of my locals play them so I don't have to face them only in a tournament.

Painted Lord of the Feast - WIP

One of the original character solos for Hordes, the Lord of the Feast is an infantry-murder machine. I dread playing against him and I'm very happy to field him against my foes! He's a big part of my anti-infantry strategies in Baldur2's Theme Force as I want Baldur casting more Roots of the Earth and Rock Wall rather than Crevasse. Reach, a semi-Thresher like ability, and a teleport, who could ask for more?

The Lord of the Feast needs a dip yet so he's not complete. That's why the bone looks so flat. The dip shades that just the way I really enjoy, so I'm going to be doing that this week.

Knights Exemplar Resculpts

I found this over on http://miniarmyhugetimesink.wordpress.com. It seems that Privateer Press is rescuplting the Knights Exemplar models. This bodes well for any Grand Exemplar Kreoss Theme Force players to give them more sculpts. No word yet if they are plastic.

Painted Celestial Fulcrum - Finished

I spent Sunday night finishing off the Celestial Fulcrum. I'm very, very happy with how it turned out. The model is so detailed and just looks amazing. It is really a centerpiece for my army. I can't wait to get to play it on the table! Right now, I'm preventing myself from playing Baldur the Stonesoul's Theme Force until I finish all the models for it. All that's left is the Lord of the Feast, a unit of Druids of Orboros with Overseer, and two Gallows Grove solos. I'm very happy with how the army looks together. A very neat looking Stick and Stone force.

There isn't a good way to take pictures of this model, but here's my best attempts!

Swamp Horror, Rok, and Exemplar Errants Previews

Privateer Press gave us three presents today, the Swamp Horror, Rok, and Exemplar Errants. We could have expected the first two, but the third was a complete surprise! Plastic, for a full 10 man unit, for cheaper than the metal models? Hell yes! That's awesome.

Painted Celestial Fulcrum 2 - WIP - Now with more moons

After LGS night last night, I decided I could spend some time getting the moons in shape to be glued onto the Fulcrum. Mind you, I still have plenty of detail work to do on the model. This model is really shaping up to be something special for me and I'm happy to have been working on it.

Painted Celestial Fulcrum - WIP 1

So I've been painting my Celestial Fulcrum since Sunday, trying as best I can to get it done. I've decided to build it in parts as they'll be the easiest to paint. I put together the base, the druid holders, and the holder for the orb itself and orb. I then painted this part. It took a long time due to the amount of detail as well as the size. I realized afterwards that doing it this way was a bad decision as I had a lot of difficulties painting the bottom part of the orb due to angles of the brush to the orb. If I was going to do it again, the orb would be a separate piece. After finishing those parts, I worked on the remaining two pieces of the main orb as well as the three smaller orbs. The three small orbs didn't get done in time for the pictures.

Painted Baldur the Stonesoul

As part of the recent Wold painting, I've painted Baldur the Stonesoul in preparation of playing his Theme Force at 50 points at Tier 4. I've avoided the original color scheme in that I wanted all of Baldur's armor to be stone rather than a mixture of stone and metal. I like the look a lot more.

Painted Shifting Stones 2 and Sentry Stone & Mannikins 2

I worked on these 7 models at the same time as 4 of them have the same scheme and the other 3 have another scheme. It worked out well. To differentiate between the two different units, I changed the flower color from red to an orange. This allows my opponents to know they are different as well as help me keep track of which is which. I'm very happy with how they look together. I didn't make the Stone Keeper for the Shifting Stones specific so I can use him with whichever Shifting Stone unit I feel before the game.

Paint Stone Keeper

Here's my painted Stone Keeper unit attachment for the Shifting Stones. This guy is pretty cool in that he teleports with the unit and has an AOE with Critical Knockdown. For only 1 point, you really can't ask for more! But, really, there is. He also gives the unit of Shifting Stones Stealth which is a really neat ability for them. Very good for such a cheap package.

Skorne Venator Slinger Model Preview

PP released the Venator Slingers today. The models look pretty nice. There are only 4 sculpts in the 10-man unit, but Privateer has continued the trend of releasing all 10 models of a unit in one box. They aren't too expensive for $50 US either.

For a 4/6 cost unit, I think they are really nice against Cryx, Constructs, and other armies with non-living models. A range 10, POW 10 with 3d6 damage against non-living can do quite a bit of damage on a direct hit. Warjacks and Undead traditionally have a lower Defense, allowing them to hit harder. With Hexeris2 and his spell Black Spot, you can get quite a few models with these guys for cheap! Arcing fire can easily allow you to hit the back lines of someone's army too.

Painted Woldwyrd

The next and final Wold for now is the Woldwyrd. This is my second Woldwyrd and it is painted the same colors as my first one. I'll be using a mark on the back of the base to tell the two apart while playing.

These guys are very nice on the tabletop with the ability to shoot 3 shots, no knockdown, Purgation (free additional die on attack and damage rolls against models with enemy upkeeps), magical weapon, and a ranged attack against models that cast a spell. It also has a limited ranged Lamentation which is really neat for a denial tool. This model just does really well from a ranged support piece for the rest of the Circle models.

January Errata 2012

Privateer Press released their latest errata in time for convention season starting with Templecon. There were a bunch of changes that I'll list below that affect quite a bit of the game. A lot of groaning is being suffered by players who ran Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast because her feat Fate Weaver can no longer target any battle engines, friendly or enemy.

The full errata can be downloaded here: http://privateerpress.com/warmachine-and-hordes-errata-update

Painted Woldwatcher

As part of my continuing Wold saga, I've finished my Woldwarden. I screwed up on him originally and gave him a red/brown wash which messed him up and I had to repaint him. He's done now and ready to help protect Baldur from assassinations!

Collection (1/4/12)

This is the entire collection, as of 1/4/12. I'm probably still missing some models that have been lent out to friends.

Painted Sentry Stone & Mannikins

I posted the WIP on the Sentry Stone on the first, here's the full group of Mannikins and Sentry Stone. As I'm going with a desert/sandstone feel for my constructs, I figured red/orange would highlight away from the green that the wolds use. The plants are an interesting point on these models, drawing the eyes away from the head and arms to the chest and joints. The Mannikins are painted with the same wood technique as the wolds.

Amazing Spartan Buildings/Terrain

I've been drawn in to Dystopian Wars lately more and more due to their outstanding small scale resin figures,  The latest offering, Dystopian Wars Terrain/Buildings, are fantastic as well.

Painted Megalith

I finished up my Megalith that I had half-painted when I stopped painting Circle way back when. I'm happy to have him done. The wood on him looks a little dead rather than alive so I think I'm going to put some autumn foliage on his back to spruce him up. He's got quite a lot of detail and is just an amazing model to paint.

Painted Wold Guardian

My next model painted for my Circle army was a Wold Guardian. He's much smaller than a Woldwarden, but I think he looks much cooler. I'm also pretty sure that Baldur wished he had one when Lylyth ambushed him in the storyline and almost killed him.

Painted Shifting Stones and Sentry Stone - WIP

For New Year's Eve, I stayed in while Johnny and Kate slept. I decided that I should get painting, putting an awesome year of painting in 2011 down and getting into 2012 right.

Instead of painting more Blindwater (which I'll get back to soon), I've decided to paint Baldur the Stonesoul's Theme Force Hour of Reckoning. To start with, I worked on my Shifting Stones and Sentry Stone that I've had primed for awhile. I knew they'd paint up quick and be pretty easy for a night of relaxing.
